  • Is Small Dog Rescue South Africa a physical shelter?

No. Small Dog Rescue South Africa is a national guidance, discovery, and referral platform. We do not operate a physical kennel or shelter facility. Instead, we connect people with reviewed breed-specific and provincial rescue organisations that meet our published inclusion criteria (see our Partner Inclusion Criteria page for details).

  • How do I adopt a small dog through your site?

To adopt, use our interactive Rescue Finder or browse the partner listings to find the rescue organisation that supports your desired breed or area. You will be directed to their official website to view available dogs and submit their required application forms.

  • Is there a fee to surrender a small dog?

While our referral platform is completely free, partner rescues independently determine their own intake policies. Many do not charge a fee to surrender a dog, but some may ask for a voluntary donation or have specific veterinary requirements to help cover costs. Always confirm this directly with the partner rescue.

  • How do you verify if a dog rescue is legitimate?

We verify rescues against our Partner Inclusion Criteria, checking for public registration details, active and transparent rescue processes, verified contact lines, veterinarian relationships, and sterilisation policies. This helps protect you from puppy-sale scams disguised as rescues.
